Who runs this site?
Just me. You can find out more about me, should you so wish, on this page.
Why don't you have any bestsellers on here? Most of the books are really old.
Most of the books on here are in the public domain, which means they are out of copyright, or the copyright wasn't renewed on time.
Some of these books are pretty derogatory towards certain races, is that a view you condone?
Absolutely not. As mentioned above, most of these books are old. They were written in the late nineteenth/early twentieth centuries and as such, the views expressed in them are outdated. And let's be grateful for that.
How do I download the books?
For some books, there is a PDF link only, for others there are also EPUB and Kindle links. The PDF links will open in a new window and then you can simply save the PDF to your PC. The EPUB and Kindle links will open as a 'save as'...simply choose the folder on your pc where you wish to save it, and click 'save'.
What's the difference between the EPUB and the Kindle formats?
EPUB formats can be for any number of E-Readers; the Kindle one (in Mobi format) is purely for the Kindle.
How do I read the PDFs?
Most pcs have Adobe Reader already installed on them. If for some strange reason, yours doesn't, you can download it for free here
How do I put the eBooks onto my E-Reader?
After downloading the eBook, plug your E-Reading device into the PC, open the folder where all your books are stored and simply either copy and paste the new eBook, or drag it into your E-Reader folder.
Can you convert a book for me?
If the book is already on this site and is not already formatted, then yes, you can request I format it for you. Please note, I am constantly working on other books and so unless the book you ask for is pretty straightforward and simple, it might take some time to complete it.
Can I ask for a book to be put on the site?
If it is available for free somewhere on the web, then yes.
When I put the book onto my Kindle/E-Reader, it doesn't get alphabetised properly...what's that about?
That's about me not entering the author's metadata correctly when I create the book. My bad. I am working my way through them, but if you want one changing, let me know via the contact page, and I'll do it.
Why are some books in PDF format only, and furthermore, why are some in really bad format?
I get the books from other sites. If they are in PDF format only, then it means I haven't got around to creating the other formats as of yet. Some of the PDF's (which I have yet to get to) are scanned copies of the real book, others are very badly formatted text PDFs. I am trying to change these as fast as possible, but these things take time. One book can take up to 4 hours.
How do you do all this anyway?
I create a Word document which then gets turned into a PDF. Also from the Word document, I create HTML files with all the pages of the book (done chapter by chapter), and from that, I create the EPUB. Using the EPUB, I create the Kindle format.
What makes you different to all the other sites offering free eBooks?
I take time over my books. Yes, right now, there are some very badly formatted books on the site, but once I get around to re-doing them, they become much better. All my books have (where applicable), cover page, linked table of contents, bookmarks in the PDF version and properly formatted footnotes. What's more, if the book I am working on is supposed to have illustrations, but the copy I have doesn't have them; I will search the internet until I find them, and insert them into the book in their original places. You will never (hopefully) see a book with a cover that says 'fully illustrated' and then start reading to find nothing but image placeholders between the paragraphs. So to answer your question in short; because my books are free AND of good quality.
I have another question that's not here.
Go to the contact page, on there you will find a form; fill it in and await my response. Remember I am on UK time.
